Signed Carl Milles. Foundry mark L. Rasmussen, København. The motif conceived 1919. Bronze, green patina. Height 58 cm, length 49 cm, width 25 cm. Marble pedestal, height 132 cm, length 38 cm, width 30.5 cm. Inscription on the pedestal: 20 Sept 1920.
Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Carl Milles could be acquired at Bukowski in December this year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Important Winter Sale auction, the work "Kämpande centaurer" (Fighting Centaurs) changed hands for SEK 350,000.00 (€ 31,481.65) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of SEK 400,000.00 – 500,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Carl Milles - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Naiad and dolphin, which sold at auction in December 2010 for SEK 1,100,000.00 (€ 122,609.09).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von Carl Milles konnte im Dezember diesen Jahres bei Bukowski für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion Important Winter Sale wechselte die Arbeit "Kämpande centaurer" (Fighting Centaurs) für SEK 350.000,00 (€ 31.481,65) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von SEK 400.000,00 – 500.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Carl Milles mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Naiad and dolphin beobachtet, die im Dezember 2010 für SEK 1.100.000,00 (€ 122.609,09) versteigert wurde.
