Auction result misses estimated price range
In November 2010 a collector was able to acquire the work View of Broadstairs, Kent by John Durrant for GBP 625.00 (€ 746.87). This price was achieved in the auction The Collection of the Late John Appleby: A Channel Island Treasure House at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by John Durrant have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Two studies of Dover boats; A hovelling boat, Dover, used for piloting and mackerel fishing; View from South Shields, the banks of the Tyne at low water and people gathering coals (illustrated); A Ride [sic. packet sailing from Portsmouth to Ride s in November 2010 with an auction result of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,182.49)
