Auction result misses estimated price range

When the work Portrait of Robert Hawkes (1774-1836), small full-length, holding a letter and spectacles, in an interior, a landscape beyond by Benjamin Robert Haydon was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 600.00 – 1,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 597.50 (€ 896.47). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Benjamin Robert Haydon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Heracles and Persephone in December 2000 with an auction result of GBP 25,850.00 (€ 41,178.82).

Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne

Als die Arbeit Portrait of Robert Hawkes (1774-1836), small full-length, holding a letter and spectacles, in an interior, a landscape beyond von Benjamin Robert Haydon im Mai 2004 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 600,00 – 1.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 597,50 (€ 896,47) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Benjamin Robert Haydon erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Heracles and Persephone im Dezember 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 25.850,00 (€ 41.178,82).
