Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Detail No. 2: Labyrinth by Ben Shahn was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in March 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 10,000.00 (€ 8,906.31). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ben Shahn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Scabbies are Welcome in September 2006 with an auction result of USD 262,400.00 (€ 206,825.88).
