signed and dated 'B. Marshall 1810 (centre left) and with insrciption 'My Dear little pony Sancho and his constant companion Cato - painted by Marshall, given to me when I was 8 years old by George Prince of Wales, lived to be 24 years old' (on a handwritten label attached to the reverse)

Auction result misses estimated price range
In November 2002 a collector was able to acquire the work Sancho, a bay pony, with Cato by Ben Marshall for GBP 8,365.00 (€ 13,099.16). This price was achieved in the auction SPORTING ART at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ben Marshall achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'Bravura', an iron-grey filly, with James Robinson up, with her owner Sir Robert Keith Dick, Bt., her trainer mounted on a grey pony to the left, on Newmarket Heath in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 200,000.00 (€ 234,541.47).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im November 2002 konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Sancho, a bay pony, with Cato von Ben Marshall für GBP 8.365,00 (€ 13.099,16) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion SPORTING ART bei Christies in London erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 10.000,00 – 15.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ben Marshall erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit 'Bravura', an iron-grey filly, with James Robinson up, with her owner Sir Robert Keith Dick, Bt., her trainer mounted on a grey pony to the left, on Newmarket Heath im Juli 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 200.000,00 (€ 234.541,47).
