Auction result well in line with expectations
In May this year Christies in Cologne held the auction Fine Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ink Paintings, which included the work Scenery of Li River by Bai Xueshi. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of HKD 1,500,000.00 – 2,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of HKD 1,512,000.00 (€ 181,229.96) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Bai Xueshi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Landscape of Li River, which sold at auction in October 2013 for HKD 4,485,000.00 (€ 425,603.21).
