Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2008 a collector was able to acquire the work The Yacht Cambria Racing Off Ryde – Isle Of Wight by Arthur Wellington Fowles for USD 23,750.00 (€ 17,063.01). This price was achieved in the auction The Sporting Sale: Equestrian, Wildlife & Maritime Art at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Arthur Wellington Fowles - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Indian troopship Serapis arriving at Portsmouth, 11 May 1876, with H.R.H. The Prince of Wales aboard her on his return from India, and the Royal yacht Osborne following her in, which sold at auction in November 2000 for GBP 22,325.00 (€ 36,489.33).
