Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Arthur Wellington Fowles could be acquired at Christies in London in March 2007 for an unexpectedly low price. In the British & Continental Watercolours & Maritime Paintings auction, the work Leaving Spithead changed hands for GBP 288.00 (€ 423.90) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Arthur Wellington Fowles achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Indian troopship Serapis arriving at Portsmouth, 11 May 1876, with H.R.H. The Prince of Wales aboard her on his return from India, and the Royal yacht Osborne following her in in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 22,325.00 (€ 36,489.33).
