Auction result well in line with expectations

The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 16,155.74) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Arthur Wellington Fowles - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Indian troopship Serapis arriving at Portsmouth, 11 May 1876, with H.R.H. The Prince of Wales aboard her on his return from India, and the Royal yacht Osborne following her in, which sold at auction in November 2000 for GBP 22,325.00 (€ 36,489.33).
