Auction result misses estimated price range
In May 2006 a collector was able to acquire the work Catching The Ocean Breeze; And A Warship Steaming Over The Horizon by Arthur James Wetherall Burgess for GBP 240.00 (€ 350.32). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime Pictures at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 400.00 – 600.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Arthur James Wetherall Burgess achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An American Naval Auxiliary And Other Shipping In A Dockyard in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 2,880.00 (€ 4,276.89).
