Auction result misses estimated price range
In May 2004 a collector was able to acquire the work A passenger liner en route to Holland off Gibraltar by Arthur James Wetherall Burgess for GBP 358.50 (€ 537.88). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime Pictures at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 400.00 – 600.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by Arthur James Wetherall Burgess have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work An American Naval Auxiliary And Other Shipping In A Dockyard in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 2,880.00 (€ 4,276.89).
