Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price

When the work A pair of miniatures of two young ladies; one, facing right in white dress with ruffled collar, blue bandeau in her powdered curling hair; and the other, facing left in white dress with ruffled collar and blue bandeau in her powdered curling hair by Anne Mee was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2003, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,500.00 but the actual price achieved was more than th However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Anne Mee - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of Captain And Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Grosvenor (1764-1851), which sold at auction in April 2008 for GBP 19,700.00 (€ 25,114.72).
