Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work A gentleman believed to be John Austen (c. 1716-1807), facing left in silver-bordered lavender-coloured coat, silver-bordered blue waistcoat and cravat, powdered wig en queue by André Rouquet was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2001. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 5,287.50 (€ 8,414.08). Admittedly, works by André Rouquet have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Superb Miniature of A Young Nobleman In Silver-Embroidered Scarlet Coat And Cream Waistcoat, With Purple Sash, Wearing A White Bordered Black Tricorn Hat With Black Feathers On His Curly Powdered Wig in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 24,000.00 (€ 35,640.75).

Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 5.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 5.287,50 (€ 8.414,08) einen neuen Besitzer.
