Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Fancy Ball Dresses: Four Plates by André Léon Larue was auctioned at Christies in New York in March 2003, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,673.00 (€ 1,534.86). Admittedly, works by André Léon Larue have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A young gentleman called Alexandre L[..., in fur-bordered bottle green coat, open white shirt and red checked scarf loosely knotted, fair hair and moustache|AID716323] in June 2008 with an auction result of GBP 6,875.00 (€ 8,690.23).
