Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2014 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale, which included the work Portrait Of Archibald Campbell, 3Rd Duke Of Argyll (1682–1761) by Allan Ramsay. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 218,500.00 (€ 275,597.20) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by Allan Ramsay have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in July 2008 the work Portrait of Anne, Lady North (c. 1740-1797), wife of Frederick North, 2nd Baron North, three-quarter-length, in a pink dress and lace shawl with roses at her décolletage, and a lace headdress, by a column was auctioned for GBP 421,250.00 (€ 535,202.87).
