O'Brien's West End Amusement Park, Tottenham Court Road, 1925
signed and inscribed '"Study of Fair" held in mid thirties/on white ground behind Meux/Brewery at the corner of Tottenham/Court road & New Oxford St./Done at night by candlelight in/a disused house. oil on canvas/painted entirely out of doors/The "painting" was purhcased by/Sir Gerald Kelly & was in his/possesion till his death and was/lent by Lady Kelly for the Exhibition/held at Agnews in March 1972 (to mark my 80th birthday) This study in oils was pretty/closely ... in the final/picture - even though a great/many other studies were made/for it. A number of these/studies chiefly as gouaches are in the possession of M. Brouisley Ford./painted by/Allan Gwynne - Jones D.S.A. RA I think the date of the study was/mid twenties, not thirties, while/I was professor of painting at the Royal Academy of Art' (on a label attached to the backboard)

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work O'Brien's West End Amusement Park, Tottenham Court Road, 1925 by Allan Gwynne-Jones was sold in the The London Sale auction at Christies in London in September 2012. The price achieved of GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,568.53) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Admittedly, works by Allan Gwynne-Jones have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Torth Hovis a Chyllell (Hovis Loaf and Knife) in May 2007 with an auction result of GBP 6,600.00 (€ 9,712.35).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 1.250,00 (€ 1.568,53) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben worden. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Allan Gwynne-Jones auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Torth Hovis a Chyllell (Hovis Loaf and Knife) im Mai 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 6.600,00 (€ 9.712,35).
