Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Portrait Of A Lady, Said To Be Louise Julie De Nesle, Comtesse De Mailly by Alexis Grimou was worth USD 28,125.00 (€ 20,506.74) to a buyer in January 2011. This price was achieved in the auction Old Master & 19th Century European Art at Sothebys in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 8,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Alexis Grimou; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of a lady, three-quarter-length, in a white dress with blue bows, and a violet mantle, playing a hurdy gurdy, in a wooded landscape sold at auction in July 2019 with the realized price of GBP 25,062.00 (€ 27,516.41).
