Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Alexander Coosemans achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May last year. In the Master Paintings auction, the work Still Life of grapes, pomegranates, walnuts, peaches, an ear of corn, various drinking vessels, and a lizard, all on a stone ledge sold for USD 50,400.00 (€ 46,966.73) - well above the upper estimate of USD 20,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Alexander Coosemans; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Composition À La Corbeille De Fruits, Au Homard Et À La Bouteille En Faïence De Delft sold at auction in June 2012 with the realized price of EUR 75,787.00.
