Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The battle of Leghorn, 4th March 1653, during the first Anglo-Dutch War of 1652-54 by Aernout Smit was sold in the Important Maritime Art auction at Christies in London in October 2007. It changed hands for a price of GBP 11,875.00 (€ 17,053.28) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Aernout Smit - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Dutch three-master firing a salute, together with numerous other ships near a quay to the left, a windmill in the distance and outskirts of towns on the far horizon, which sold at auction in October 2021 for EUR 62,500.00.

Die Arbeit The battle of Leghorn, 4th March 1653, during the first Anglo-Dutch War of 1652-54 von Aernout Smit wurde im Oktober 2007 in der Auktion Important Maritime Art bei Christies in London versteigert. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 11.875,00 (€ 17.053,28) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 8.000,00 – 12.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Aernout Smit mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A Dutch three-master firing a salute, together with numerous other ships near a quay to the left, a windmill in the distance and outskirts of towns on the far horizon beobachtet, die im Oktober 2021 für EUR 62.500,00 versteigert wurde.
