Three by van Ostade: 'The Pig Killers' (G.41), 1642, final eighth state, 117 x 115mm (4 5/8 x 4 1/2in)(PL), 'The Doll' (G.16), 1679, final fourth state, 102 x 90mm (4 x 3 1/2in)(PL), 'The Peasant Settling His Debt' (G.42), 1646, eleventh state of twelve, 104 x 87mm (4 1/8 x 3 3/8in)(PL); together with Jan Van Vliet (Dutch, c.1600/1610-1668),'Seller of Rat Poison', a later impression, on laid, 152 x 135mm (6 x 5 1/4in)(PL), each trimmed to or just inside the plate (4)

Auction result misses estimated price range
In September last year a collector was able to acquire the work A Group of four etchings by Adriaen van Ostade for GBP 382.50 (€ 435.32). This price was achieved in the auction Prints and Multiples at Bonhams in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 500.00 – 700.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Adriaen van Ostade achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work De Drinker: Three boors drinking and smoking in a spirit house in December 2002 with an auction result of GBP 1,051,650.00 (€ 1,614,335.41).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im September letzten Jahres konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit A Group of four etchings von Adriaen van Ostade für GBP 382,50 (€ 435,32) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Prints and Multiples bei Bonhams in London erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 500,00 – 700,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Adriaen van Ostade erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit De Drinker: Three boors drinking and smoking in a spirit house im Dezember 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 1.051.650,00 (€ 1.614.335,41).
