This artwork by Adam Buck achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2002. In the Important Gold Boxes, Objects of Vertu and Portrait auction, the work A young lady, in profile to the right seated on a red covered sofa, with her left hand raised to her forehead, in white dress with gold-set cameo brooch at corsage, gold comb in her upswept and curling dark hair sold for GBP 3,585.00 (€ 5,503.15) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Adam Buck; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A Naval Officer holding his sword under his right arm, facing right in blue coat with black facings, yellow trousers, frilled cravat and black stock, powdered hair en queue sold at auction in May 2002 with the realized price of GBP 5,975.00 (€ 9,356.93).
