The US-American conceptual artist Barbara Kruger (*1945) is considered one of the most important and prominent artists of our time. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is dedicating the exhibition Barbara Kruger: Thinking of You. I Mean Me. I Mean You. Covering a total of four decades, this is the largest and most comprehensive presentation of Kruger's work of the past 20 years. From March 20 through July 17, 2022, visitors can view her single-channel videos from the 1980s, among other works, as well as her digital productions from the past two decades. In addition, the exhibition features large-scale vinyl space slides, multi-channel video installations, and audio soundscapes throughout the LACMA campus. The highlight of the exhibition is her recent video works.
Kruger's creations are considered visually arresting works of art that are stirring, bold and significant. Her work critically and wittily engages with contemporary culture. Echoing our image-saturated society, Kruger questions the hierarchies of power and control in works that often combine visual and written language. As an active consumer and attentive viewer of popular culture, she is also concerned with the increasingly rapid ways in which images and words flow instantaneously through the media.
