When Alberto Giacometti (1901 - 1966) exhibited his sculpture Boule suspendue in Paris in 1930, his artistic work was to change decisively. For among the visitors was the young Salvador Dalí (1904 - 1989), who saw in sculpture the ideal of an »object with a symbolic function« and ensured that Giacometti was accepted into the circle of the Surrealists. In the following years, the two famous artists were united by a close friendship and joint projects, such as surreal gardens and squares. Visitors can see a reconstruction of one of the designs, Giacometti's Projet pour une place (1933), in the exhibition Giacometti − Dalí. Dream Gardens. It will be held at the Kunsthaus Zürich from April 14 to July 2.
This exhibition is the first to focus on the relationship between Dalí and Giacometti. In the same way, it attracts with the mentioned reconstruction, which can now be seen publicly for the first time. The show in Zurich is the expanded form of the exhibition from the Institut Giacometti in Paris, which now includes numerous works from the Zurich collection from April.
