The work Playing Chess in Autumn by You Qiu was worth HKD 2,167,500.00 (€ 178,442.64) to a buyer in May 2008. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 500,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by You Qiu; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Lohans Crossing The Sea sold at auction in September 2016 with the realized price of USD 346,000.00 (€ 307,883.97).
