A large horizontal print, titled in Katakana, Zentou pengin (Gentoo Penguin) along the left margin depicting a large colony of penguins on a rocky beach, dated Senkyuhyaku-nanajunana-nen (1977), the English title printed along the bottom left, Gentoo Penguins, edition number 33/600, signed and dated in pencil Toshi Yoshida 1977. 31.2cm x 63.1cm (12¼in x 24 11/16in).

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Zentou pengin (Gentoo Penguin) by Yoshida Toshi was auctioned at Bonhams in London in May this year. It achieved a price of GBP 1,408.00 (€ 1,638.22), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 17%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Yoshida Toshi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Five woodblock prints, which sold at auction in May 2021 for GBP 5,292.00 (€ 6,157.36).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Zentou pengin (Gentoo Penguin) von Yoshida Toshi kam im Mai diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in London zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 1.408,00 (€ 1.638,22) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 17%. Für andere Arbeiten von Yoshida Toshi mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Five woodblock prints beobachtet, die im Mai 2021 für GBP 5.292,00 (€ 6.157,36) versteigert wurde.
