Two large vertical prints from the series Birds of the Seasons: the first of spring, titled Hakubai ni mau (Flying Around the White Plum Tree), 53cm x 33.7cm (20 7/8in x 13¼in); the second of winter, titled Sekisetsu no hakageni (Sitting under Snow-Covered Leaves), 54.2cm x 34.3cm (21 3/7in x 13½in); each signed in pencil Yoshida Toshi in Chinese characters along the bottom margin and Toshi with seal Yoshida Toshi within the image. Auction result well in line with expectations
In May this year Bonhams in London held the auction From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries, which included the work Unknown by Yoshida Toshi. It changed hands for a price of GBP 768.00 (€ 893.57) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00. Admittedly, works by Yoshida Toshi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Five woodblock prints in May 2021 with an auction result of GBP 5,292.00 (€ 6,157.36).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Mai diesen Jahres führte Bonhams in London die Auktion From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries durch, in der auch die Arbeit Unknown von Yoshida Toshi zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 768,00 (€ 893,57) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 600,00 – 800,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Yoshida Toshi auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Five woodblock prints im Mai 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.292,00 (€ 6.157,36).
