Showa era (1921-1989), dated 1975 and 1975/1976
Two large horizontal prints: the first depicting a black owl with its wing outstretched flying in the sky, dated and titled Senkyuhyaku-nanajugo-nen saku, Tobu (Flying, Work of 1975) along the left margin, with the English title along the bottom margin in pencil Flying, edition number 136/250, signed Toshi Yoshida, 1975 with Jikoku seal; the second depicting a stampede of wild beasts, dated and titled along the left margin Senkyuhyaku- nanajugo-nen saku, Hashiru (Running, Work of 1975), with the English title in pencil along the bottom margin Running, edition number 81/250, signed Toshi Yoshida 1976, with Jikoku seal. Both approx., 30.7cm x 63cm (12 1/8in x 24 13/16in). (2).

Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Unknown by Yoshida Toshi was auctioned at Bonhams in London in May this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 768.00 (€ 893.57). Admittedly, works by Yoshida Toshi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Five woodblock prints in May 2021 with an auction result of GBP 5,292.00 (€ 6,157.36).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Unknown von Yoshida Toshi im Mai diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 800,00 – 1.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 768,00 (€ 893,57) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Yoshida Toshi auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Five woodblock prints im Mai 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.292,00 (€ 6.157,36).
