Two large vertical prints from the series Birds of the Seasons: the first of summer, titled Sarusuberi ni tsudou (Gathering around Crape Myrtle), 54cm x 33.8cm (21¼in x 13 5/16in); the second of autumn, titled Momiji no yasuragi (Serenity of Red Maples), 54cm x 34.2cm (21¼in x 13 7/16in); each signed in pencil Yoshida Toshi in Chinese characters along the bottom margin and Toshi with seal Yoshida Toshi within the image. The work Unknown by Yoshida Toshi was sold in the From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries auction at Bonhams in London in May this year. It achieved a price of GBP 1,152.00 (€ 1,340.36), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 44%. Admittedly, works by Yoshida Toshi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Five woodblock prints in May 2021 with an auction result of GBP 5,292.00 (€ 6,157.36).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 44 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Unknown von Yoshida Toshi wurde im Mai diesen Jahres in der Auktion From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries bei Bonhams in London versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 1.152,00 (€ 1.340,36) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 44%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Yoshida Toshi auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Five woodblock prints im Mai 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.292,00 (€ 6.157,36).
