Showa era (1926-1989), dated 1951 and 1970
Two yoko-e prints of different sizes; the first an oban dated and titled Senkyuhyaku-gojuichi-nen saku, Juzukake no ume (Juzu-kake Plum Tree, Work of 1951) along the left margin, the English title printed along the bottom left edge (Plum Tree and Blue Magpie), signed in Roman script Toshi Yoshida in pencil along the bottom right margin, with a seal Yoshida within the image, 27.7cm x 40cm (10 7/8 in x 15¾in); the second of a large format, dated and titled along the left margin Senkyuhyaku-nanaju-nen, Sanbuzaki (One-third in Bloom, Work of 1970), with the printed English title Cherry Blossoms along the bottom left margin, signed in Roman script Toshi Yoshida in pencil along the bottom right margin, further signature Toshi and a seal Yoshida Toshi in Chinese characters within the image, 37cm x 55.5cm (14 9/16in x 21 7/9in). Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Unknown by Yoshida Toshi was auctioned at Bonhams in London in May this year. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 1,088.00 (€ 1,265.90). Admittedly, works by Yoshida Toshi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Five woodblock prints in May 2021 with an auction result of GBP 5,292.00 (€ 6,157.36).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Unknown von Yoshida Toshi kam im Mai diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in London zur Auktion. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 1.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 1.088,00 (€ 1.265,90) einen neuen Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Yoshida Toshi auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Five woodblock prints im Mai 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.292,00 (€ 6.157,36).
