Description
YE YANLAN (1823-1898) Copy of Luo Ping’s Ancient Etymologists Hanging scroll, ink on paper 127.5 x 60 cm. (50 1 ⁄ 4 x 23 5 ⁄ 8 in.) Inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist Dated tenth month, bingzi , second year of the Guangxu period (1876) NOTE: Ye Yanlan, courtesy name Nanxue and Lantai, was a native of Panyu, Guangdong Province. He was the grandfather of Ye Gongchuo. Ye was good at calligraphy and literature.

This artwork by Ye Yanlan achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in August this year. In the Summer Reverie: Chinese Paintings Online auction, the work Copy of Luo Ping’s Ancient Etymologists sold for HKD 94,500.00 (€ 11,116.11) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 50,000.00. Admittedly, works by Ye Yanlan have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Lady Under The Tree in May 2016 with an auction result of HKD 812,500.00 (€ 93,909.97).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 89 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Ye Yanlan erzielte im August diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Summer Reverie: Chinese Paintings Online wurde die Arbeit Copy of Luo Ping’s Ancient Etymologists für HKD 94.500,00 (€ 11.116,11) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von HKD 50.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Ye Yanlan auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Lady Under The Tree im Mai 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 812.500,00 (€ 93.909,97).
