Description
YE GONGCHUO (1881-1968) Bamboo and Rock Scroll, mounted for framing, ink on paper 67.8 x 36.6 cm. (26 3 ⁄ 4 x 14 3 ⁄ 8 in.) Inscribed and signed, with one seal of the artist Dated spring, thirty-seventh year (of the Republic, 1948) Dedicated to Xibai (Rong Geng, 1894-1983) NOTE: The recipient of this work was Rong Geng. Born in Dongguan, Rong appraised the old collections of the Qing Palace and compiled them into books. Ye Gongchuo and Rong Geng had similar interests in calligraphy and paintings connoisseurship and academically.
Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In June this year Christies in Paris held the auction Exquisite Eye: Chinese Paintings Online, which included the work Bamboo and Rock by Ye Gongchuo. Here, the upper estimate of HKD 20,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for HKD 20,160.00 (€ 2,355.69). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ye Gongchuo achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Calligraphy Couplet In Xingshu in April 2017 with an auction result of HKD 2,000,000.00 (€ 236,071.59).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Juni diesen Jahres führte Christies in Paris die Auktion Exquisite Eye: Chinese Paintings Online durch, in der auch die Arbeit Bamboo and Rock von Ye Gongchuo zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von HKD 20.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für HKD 20.160,00 (€ 2.355,69) einen neuen Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ye Gongchuo erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Calligraphy Couplet In Xingshu im April 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 2.000.000,00 (€ 236.071,59).
