A chuban yoko-e surimono print, depicting a cock eyeing a free-standing screen painted with a cock, hen and chicks, with three poems by Sekichutei Mago, Tetsunoya Tatenori, and Yomono Magao; signed Yanagawa Shigenobu hitsu; mounted on card. 19.2cm x 27.2cm (7 9/16in x 10 11/16in).

In May this year Bonhams in London held the auction From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries, which included the work a cock eyeing a free-standing screen painted with a cock, hen and chicks by Yanagawa Shigenobu. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,048.00 (€ 2,382.86), 71% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Yanagawa Shigenobu - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The complete set of twelve shunga prints from the series Willow Storm (Yanagi no Arashi), which sold at auction in July 2019 for GBP 7,500.00 (€ 8,234.50).

Im Mai diesen Jahres führte Bonhams in London die Auktion From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries durch, in der auch die Arbeit a cock eyeing a free-standing screen painted with a cock, hen and chicks von Yanagawa Shigenobu zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 2.048,00 (€ 2.382,86) und damit 71% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Yanagawa Shigenobu mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The complete set of twelve shunga prints from the series Willow Storm (Yanagi no Arashi) beobachtet, die im Juli 2019 für GBP 7.500,00 (€ 8.234,50) versteigert wurde.
