The Phlegraean Fields, shown in this view, are a volcanic area around Pozzuoli to the west of Naples. Della Gatta must have drawn inspiration for this view from the print published in Campi Phlegraei. Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2017 Christies in London held the auction The Lure of Naples: A Private Collection of Italian Views, which included the work View of Ischia from the Convent of the Camaldese near Naples by Xavier Della Gatta. It changed hands for a price of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 8,513.62) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Xavier Della Gatta achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Naples, Vue Du Palais Royal De Portici, Avec Le Vésuve En Éruption; Naples, Vue Du Port De Portici in June 2009 with an auction result of EUR 138,750.00.
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im November 2017 führte Christies in London die Auktion The Lure of Naples: A Private Collection of Italian Views durch, in der auch die Arbeit View of Ischia from the Convent of the Camaldese near Naples von Xavier Della Gatta zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 7.500,00 (€ 8.513,62) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 6.000,00 – 8.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Xavier Della Gatta erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Naples, Vue Du Palais Royal De Portici, Avec Le Vésuve En Éruption; Naples, Vue Du Port De Portici im Juni 2009 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 138.750,00.
