Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Old cottage, Bigbury, Devon by William Pitt was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2003, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,762.50 (€ 1,775.32). Admittedly, works by William Pitt have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Near Stoke Gabriel on the Dart, Devon; and Cottage at Hooe, near Plymouth in September 2000 with an auction result of GBP 8,225.00 (€ 13,762.94).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Old cottage, Bigbury, Devon von William Pitt im September 2003 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 1.762,50 (€ 1.775,32) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Pitt auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Near Stoke Gabriel on the Dart, Devon; and Cottage at Hooe, near Plymouth im September 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 8.225,00 (€ 13.762,94).
