Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In March 2000 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian Pictures, which included the work Portrait of Mrs Shaw of Greens Norton, Towcester, full-length, in a black dress, by a balustrade, in a landscape by William Owen. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 6,325.00 (€ 10,518.76). Admittedly, works by William Owen have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Ernest Augustus I (1771-1851), Duke of Cumberland and later King of Hanover (1837-1851), full-length, in the uniform of a British General Officer of Hussars, with the blue sash and breast star of the Order of the Garter in October 2015 with an auction result of GBP 62,500.00 (€ 87,421.89).
Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Owen auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of Ernest Augustus I (1771-1851), Duke of Cumberland and later King of Hanover (1837-1851), full-length, in the uniform of a British General Officer of Hussars, with the blue sash and breast star of the Order of the Garter im Oktober 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 62.500,00 (€ 87.421,89).
