Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by William Owen could be acquired at Christies in New York in May 2000 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master Paintings, Drawings and Picture Frames auction, the work Portrait of a gentleman, half-length, wearing a brown jacket changed hands for USD 1,880.00 (€ 2,015.44) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Owen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Ernest Augustus I (1771-1851), Duke of Cumberland and later King of Hanover (1837-1851), full-length, in the uniform of a British General Officer of Hussars, with the blue sash and breast star of the Order of the Garter in October 2015 with an auction result of GBP 62,500.00 (€ 87,421.89).
