Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Still Life With Letter To Mr. William Taggart, Esq. by William Michael Harnett was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in December 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 70,000.00 – 90,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 68,500.00 (€ 52,801.97). Admittedly, works by William Michael Harnett have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Still Life With Violin in November 2019 with an auction result of USD 500,000.00 (€ 453,761.68).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Still Life With Letter To Mr. William Taggart, Esq. von William Michael Harnett im Dezember 2011 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 70.000,00 – 90.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 68.500,00 (€ 52.801,97) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Michael Harnett auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Still Life With Violin im November 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 500.000,00 (€ 453.761,68).
