Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Bellissima by William McGregor Paxton was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 239,400.00 (€ 212,102.42). Admittedly, works by William McGregor Paxton have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Letter in April 2002 with an auction result of USD 834,500.00 (€ 927,016.22).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Bellissima von William McGregor Paxton im November 2021 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 250.000,00 – 350.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 239.400,00 (€ 212.102,42) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William McGregor Paxton auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Letter im April 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 834.500,00 (€ 927.016,22).
