This artwork by William Marlow achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May 2003. In the Important Old Master Paintings auction, the work The towpath of the Thames with a view of Richmond Hill beyond sold for USD 15,535.00 (€ 13,203.30) - well above the upper estimate of USD 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Marlow achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A View From Richmond, Looking Towards Twickenham in January 2007 with an auction result of USD 384,000.00 (€ 295,430.07).
