Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Distant View Of Rome From The North by William Marlow was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 40,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 18,750.00 (€ 22,553.34). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Marlow achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A View From Richmond, Looking Towards Twickenham in January 2007 with an auction result of USD 384,000.00 (€ 295,430.07).
