Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2001 Christies in London held the auction Victorian Pictures, which included the work Crown Imperial (Fritillaria imperialis), Poppy Oriental, Tulip, Hyacinth, Primula (Auricula), Rose, Glory of the Sun (Leucocorné ixiodes), Geum (Rosaceae), Daffodil (Narcissus), Astrantia and Gentian, in a terracotta vase on a marble ledge in a land by John Wainwright. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 25,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 21,150.00 (€ 33,656.31) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by John Wainwright have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in June 2005 the work Roses, Lillies, Tulips, Poppies And Other Flowers In A Vase In A Classical Garden was auctioned for GBP 44,400.00 (€ 65,803.60).
