Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2002 a collector was able to acquire the work Lady Apples in Overturned Basket by William J. McCloskey for USD 185,500.00 (€ 176,919.41). This price was achieved in the auction Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 300,000.00 – 500,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William J. McCloskey - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Wrapped Oranges On A Tabletop, which sold at auction in May 2011 for USD 782,500.00 (€ 544,309.96).

Im Dezember 2002 konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Lady Apples in Overturned Basket von William J. McCloskey für USD 185.500,00 (€ 176.919,41) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture bei Christies in New York erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von USD 300.000,00 – 500.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von William J. McCloskey mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Wrapped Oranges On A Tabletop beobachtet, die im Mai 2011 für USD 782.500,00 (€ 544.309,96) versteigert wurde.
