This artwork by William Hughes achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in July 2000. In the Pictures, Watercolours and Drawings auction, the work A branch with plums against a gold background sold for NLG 12,872.20 (€ 5,658.16) - well above the upper estimate of NLG 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by William Hughes have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Flowers, Fruit, A Bullfinch And Its Nest in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 20,400.00 (€ 30,294.64).

In der Auktion Pictures, Watercolours and Drawings wurde die Arbeit A branch with plums against a gold background für NLG 12.872,20 (€ 5.658,16) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von NLG 5.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Hughes auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Flowers, Fruit, A Bullfinch And Its Nest im November 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 20.400,00 (€ 30.294,64).
