Sold at the upper estimate price
The work Study of a gentleman, shoulder-length, in profile to the left; and Study of a lady reading a book (both illustrated) by William Hoare of Bath was sold in the The Collection of the Late John Appleby: A Channel Island Treasure House auction at Christies in London in November 2010. The auction ended at the price of GBP 1,500.00 (€ 1,792.50), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hoare of Bath achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Ayuba Suleiman Diallo, called Job ben Solomon (1701-1773), half-length, in African dress, with the Qu'ran around his neck, in a feigned oval in December 2009 with an auction result of GBP 541,250.00 (€ 610,549.03).
Zuschlag beim oberen Schätzpreis
Die Arbeit Study of a gentleman, shoulder-length, in profile to the left; and Study of a lady reading a book (both illustrated) von William Hoare of Bath wurde im November 2010 in der Auktion The Collection of the Late John Appleby: A Channel Island Treasure House bei Christies in London versteigert.
