This artwork by William Hoare of Bath achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2014. In the Old Master & British Drawings auction, the work Portrait Of A Gentleman sold for GBP 12,500.00 (€ 15,766.43) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hoare of Bath achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Ayuba Suleiman Diallo, called Job ben Solomon (1701-1773), half-length, in African dress, with the Qu'ran around his neck, in a feigned oval in December 2009 with an auction result of GBP 541,250.00 (€ 610,549.03).
