Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of Elizabeth Hamilton, Later Countess Of Warwick (1720–1800), And Her Brother William Hamilton (1730–1803), The Eldest Daughter And Youngest Son Of Lord Archibald Hamilton by William Hoare of Bath was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale auction at Sothebys in London in July 2014. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 28,379.57) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hoare of Bath achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Ayuba Suleiman Diallo, called Job ben Solomon (1701-1773), half-length, in African dress, with the Qu'ran around his neck, in a feigned oval in December 2009 with an auction result of GBP 541,250.00 (€ 610,549.03).

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Hoare of Bath erzielen.
