Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by William Hoare of Bath could be acquired at Christies in London in November 2010 for an unexpectedly low price. In the The Collection of the Late John Appleby: A Channel Island Treasure House auction, the work Study of a lady, reading a book, deep in concentration; and Study of a lady, reading, seated at a desk (both illustrated) changed hands for GBP 875.00 (€ 1,045.62) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hoare of Bath achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Ayuba Suleiman Diallo, called Job ben Solomon (1701-1773), half-length, in African dress, with the Qu'ran around his neck, in a feigned oval in December 2009 with an auction result of GBP 541,250.00 (€ 610,549.03).
In der Auktion The Collection of the Late John Appleby: A Channel Island Treasure House wechselte die Arbeit Study of a lady, reading a book, deep in concentration; and Study of a lady, reading, seated at a desk (both illustrated) für GBP 875,00 (€ 1.045,62) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.000,00 – 1.500,00.
