Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work British A New Day by William Henry Margetson was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in April 2007, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 42,000.00 (€ 30,746.71). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Henry Margetson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work On The Sands, which sold at auction in May 2011 for GBP 97,250.00 (€ 111,205.67).
