Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2011 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours, which included the work French soldiers outside the château at Amboise by William Collingwood Smith. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,497.05) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by William Collingwood Smith have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Thanksgiving Day, St Paul's Cathedral, 27 February 1872 in November 2012 with an auction result of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 13,858.86).
