Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Norfolk Wherry on the River Bure by William Edward Mayes was auctioned at Christies in London in March 2003, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 200.00 – 300.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 176.25 (€ 255.32). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Edward Mayes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Hensted Mill, Norfolk, which sold at auction in March 2003 for GBP 587.50 (€ 851.07).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A Norfolk Wherry on the River Bure von William Edward Mayes im März 2003 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 200,00 – 300,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 176,25 (€ 255,32) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von William Edward Mayes mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Hensted Mill, Norfolk beobachtet, die im März 2003 für GBP 587,50 (€ 851,07) versteigert wurde.
